Hurricane Sandy Relief

Hello Lovers,

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy there are many emotions that people are going through. Sadness, despair, loss, helplessness and hardship are included in those emotions. There is also thanks, gratitude, love and a sense of being blessed that many are feeling. It is hard to decide what direction to move toward as we try and put pieces of our lives back together, but we just having the desire and fortitude is the first step. In the aftermath, while conversing with my sorority sisters, we all felt an overwhelming need to help. We were looking for how we could help and were only finding places that wanted monetary donations. But we wanted to do more than just give money, this is our home and our neighbors that have been affected. We decided to be proactive and help locally as much as we can. So we are collecting gently used clothes, toiletries, toys and household items to donate to families. We are asking anybody who knows a family in need to contact us. If we don’t get any lists of families within a week or so, we will be bringing all donations to a major group or organization.

There is a need right now, not only to repair and replace what has been lost, but also to share information. The Sisters of Sigma Iota Sigma Multicultural Sorority Inc are asking you to please tell us if you know of a worthy organization collecting these items, looking for hands on volunteers or a family that is in need, that information would be greatly appreciated.  We have Sisters in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Long Island, the Bronx, Westchester and Albany that you can contact if you know people in need.
