Hurricane Sandy Relief

3 Nov

Hello Lovers,

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy there are many emotions that people are going through. Sadness, despair, loss, helplessness and hardship are included in those emotions. There is also thanks, gratitude, love and a sense of being blessed that many are feeling. It is hard to decide what direction to move toward as we try and put pieces of our lives back together, but we just having the desire and fortitude is the first step. In the aftermath, while conversing with my sorority sisters, we all felt an overwhelming need to help. We were looking for how we could help and were only finding places that wanted monetary donations. But we wanted to do more than just give money, this is our home and our neighbors that have been affected. We decided to be proactive and help locally as much as we can. So we are collecting gently used clothes, toiletries, toys and household items to donate to families. We are asking anybody who knows a family in need to contact us. If we don’t get any lists of families within a week or so, we will be bringing all donations to a major group or organization.

There is a need right now, not only to repair and replace what has been lost, but also to share information. The Sisters of Sigma Iota Sigma Multicultural Sorority Inc are asking you to please tell us if you know of a worthy organization collecting these items, looking for hands on volunteers or a family that is in need, that information would be greatly appreciated.Ā  We have Sisters in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Long Island, the Bronx, Westchester and Albany that you can contact if you know people in need. You can email any sister from the list below:
Kimberly Mitchell – Long Island (Suffolk County) – kcamitchell@gmail.com

Tiffany Clemmings – Long Island (Suffolk County) – tiffanyclemmings@gmail.com

Brendaliz Capellan – Brooklyn – Brendaliz.capellan30@gmail.com

Teazia Vincent – Westchester – teaziavincent@gmail.com

Thank you for reading and I will be praying for everybody’s safety and well being.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

22 Oct

Hello Hue Lovers!!

How beautiful was this weekend, right?? After a gorgeous fall weekend I feel great going into the new week. Though I worked on Saturday, I was able to enjoy a wonderful and uplifting Sunday by attending the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. The energy was amazing and the day was absolutely beautiful. In my post, Tuesday Tip: Always Remember that Hope Makes All Things Possible!. , I showed a Day Look and Night Look for Breast Cancer Awareness. For the walk I decided to wear makeup that was practical for a walk but still fun and inspired!

As you can see I went veryyyy light with my makeup for the walk. I rocked a simple eye with liner, but Sugarpill’s Dollipop gave the perfect pop of pink on my lid. For my lips I decided to go nice and bright pink!! I used OCC’s Anime lip tar topped with Revlon’s Lip Butter in Lollipop, I darkened the corners with a black liner blended in.

I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful and productive weekend! Here are a couple of pics from my day!

What are your plans for next weekend?

Tuesday Tip: Don’t let the weather dampen your self expression.

4 Sep

Hello Hue Lovers!
I don’t know about your location….but here in New York we’ve been hit by Mr. Rainy Day. A rainy day may compel some to go out of their desired look, toward a more weather appropriate look for the day. Never let the weather dampen your self expression. If you wanted to wear shorts, GO FOR IT!! Throw on a pair of thick tights and combat boots to make it work. If you wanted to have a pop of color, DO IT!! Throw on a cute hat or scarf for that pop of color you desire.
There is always the opportunity to express yourself in your daily look. It’s the little things that make all the difference. Here is a short list of ‘little things that make a big impact’:

*Nail Polish – as discussed in last week’s Tuesday Tip: Mix it Up, nail polish can make a huge statement in your daily look and can always brighten a rainy day.

*Head Accessories – scarves, hats and cute headbands or hair clips can make a statement for any outfit. Try to liven up your look with a scarf tied in a cute way or a fun print.

*Jewelry and Accents – play up your look with some arm candy, a statement necklace or eye catching earrings for a quick and easy spice up. The same goes for a cute belt (braided, metallic, etc.) or a nice neck scarf.

*Shoes – we all know that shoes are the real deal. Turn up any outfit with a pair of shoes. Prints, fabrics and all are a YES in the shoe world.

*Makeup!! – last but definitely not least, makeup can make all the difference. Whether you are going for natural, classic or dramatic makeup, you can truly set the tone for your look with it. Eyes, lips and cheeks can all be used to make a statement. Makeup is a great an affordable way to play up any look, so definitely try it out next time you’re getting ready.

What are your favorite rainy day pieces?
